Longhunter State Park is a fair sized park in Hermitage. It dips into three separate counties. There are seven different hiking trails and one mountain bike trail that is labeled as being hiker friendly. The trails I have taken are all fairly level. The trail lengths vary between a quarter of a mile and eleven miles round trip. There is even a hard surface wide trail for people who have mobility problems so there is something for everyone. With the exception of the Volunteer Trail which has a great deal of lake washed trash along sections of it the trails are all very clean. All of the trails are well maintained. The park seems to be fairly busy on the weekends and I have seen people on some of the trails as I walked them but the trails are far from crowded. Longhunter has a nice balance between great trails and few enough people that you don’t constantly bump into other hikers on the trails.
Here is a map of the park. You can get a better trail map at the ranger station or at some of the trailheads.
The official park web site is here.
